Alvaro Siza
Álvaro Siza Vieira is a Portuguese architect born on June 25, 1933, in Matosinhos, near Porto. He studied architecture at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, graduating in 1955. During his studies, he completed his first works, including four houses in Matosinhos in 1954. That same year, he opened his own studio in Porto. Siza is known for his “poetic modernism” approach, which blends simple forms with a deep sensitivity to context and local tradition. Among his most famous works are the Piscina das Marés in Leça da Palmeira, the Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, and the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Porto. In 1992, he was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize.
